Lasuen Beach s also unofficially named and referred to by locals as Lost Winds Beach. A loose pronunciation of Lasuen has made “Lost Winds” an alternative name for the beach. So if you hear someone refer to Lost Winds beach or LW, it’s the same beach.
Lasuen Beach is accessible via either the San Clemente Beach Trail or the path from Calle De Los Alamos at the intersection of Calle Lasuen. From the beach you can see the San Clemente Pier to the north. Lost Winds is popular spot for surfers and volleyball enthusiasts.
Lasuen Beach is named after the street that leads to the staircase and path down to the beach: Calle Lasuen. Calle Lasuen is named for Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuén de Araqueta, a Spanish Basque Franciscan missionary, who first attempted to establish Mission San Juan Capistrano in 1775 and served as Presidente of the missions in California from 1785 to 1803.
